How much do we love Colby?

**I recognize that I am super behind when it comes to blogging.  I have a goal to blog the most recent first and work my way back to the twins' birthday.**

This past weekend we had to really think about how much we love our dog and how much we were willing to invest in him.  I never thought I would be willing to spend thousands of dollars on a pet and that if something went wrong with them health-wise we would end up putting the animal to sleep.  But once something actually happens to an animal that you consider a member of your family you kind of change your mind and things aren't so clear cut.

On Saturday Colby started having strange facial seizures and foaming at the mouth.  After taking him to the vet we learned that his temperature was rising super fast to very dangerous levels and that we needed to take him to an animal hospital where they were more capable of dealing with emergency cases.

When all was said and done we spent way too much money (but luckily less than the original plan for treatment the hospital presented us with) and spent tons of time at the animal hospital.  In fact - after bringing Colby home on Sunday he starting seizing again and his temperature sky rocketed again and we were certain that we were going to have to say goodbye to Colby.  Luckily a second (and much less expensive) trip to the hospital resulted in a Colby who seemed to be recovering.

It has now been 2 days since Colby has had any facial seizures and he is slowly getting his energy back.  We cried a lot of tears this past weekend when we didn't understand what was happening and weren't sure if he would pull through.  If you didn't know (or didn't remember), Colby was our first "child" when we didn't know if we would be able to have children.

Although we will never really know what happened, his recovery points to a toxin he must have ingested that finally worked its way out of his system.  Because we have 3 children under the age of 4 in our home dangerous items such as cleaning products, bug killer, fertilizer, etc. are not just out.  Colby can't get in our trash so we don't think he was poisoned in our home.  The only 2 possibilities are that he ate a poisonous frog or that someone else poisoned our Colby.  We really hope it is the former.

So glad to hear that he is all right and that it didn't cost as much as originally planned.
